Nicole Sandwich

Sometimes I find that the simpler recipes are the ones that bring the biggest compliments. And let’s be real – sandwiches aren’t exactly the most gourmet dish you can whip up in the kitchen. But I have to say, I have never made this sandwich without receiving compliments.

My mom’s cousin, Nicole, made this for a family gathering once, and the “Nicole Sandwich” has been remade for all kinds of events since then.

How to Prep the Nicole’s Hot & Cheesy Sandwich

Since we’re making one big sandwich, the prep is actually quite simple.

Slice the bread horizontally so you have two long pieces – a top and a bottom.

Mix the olive oil, juice from the jar of green olives, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, and parmesan cheese in a bowl.

Spread the mixture on the insides of the bread. Save some to brush onto the tops of the bread, too.

Layers upon Layers

Now it’s time to build. I put cheese one each side of bread so it melts on the bread and the meat and holds the whole thing together.

Here’s how the layers should go:

  • Bottom piece of bread spread with olive oil mixture on the cut side
  • Provolone
  • Ham
  • Turkey
  • Cheddar
  • Top piece of bread spread with olive oil mixture on the cut side
  • Olive oil mixture on the top of bread

Wrap the sandwich with foil, and bake for 40 minutes until sandwich is hot and cheese is melted.

Cut the sandwich into 1-2 inch slides, and serve!

And that’s a wrap – or a sandwich, rather…
